Absolute pleasure to do business with Steve who not only supplied the perfect used/approved Volvo but went the extra step in arranging overnight accommodation on arrival. EDIT May/2019: I went back to Volvo in order to troubleshoot an ABS / DSTC Service Required daashboard light that came on and car went into service mode for a short while allowing me to drive very slow. I was told at the Edinburgh dealer it's over £96 for "having a look at it". I agreed to proceed with the problem investigation and described other other issues such as steering wheel vibrations during braking and stuck open rear seat lever. The next day I received a call from the dealer to find out it's an hourly charge and asking to authorise another paid hour. I asked what actually has been done in the first hour and it turned out that no wheels were taken off to properly inspect both the ABS and vibrations issues. They tested the car on rollers and assumed replacement of both front disks/pads as well as "broken" rear axle ABS integrated sensor ring that was allegedly causing the ABC failure. The total quote was nearly £1500. I decided not to go ahead and started investigating the problem myself. We connected the car's OBDII to a fault reader which showed ABS error in left rear wheel (5 minutes). We then took off the wheel and removed the ABS sensor (5 mins). We were able to visually inspect and clear from dirt the ABS sensor ring which was perfectly fine and in one piece (15 min). We then swapped ABS sensors between rear wheels (10 min). After a short drive we reconnected to OBDII and noticed the error appeared in the opposite wheel thus confirming a faulty sensor (5 mins). Total time 40 minutes and a new sensor eBay price of £36 (dealer RRP over £60). Regarding steering wheel vibrations - we took off front wheels and brake calipers (30 minutes) and there was pretty much NO brake pad left in front off-side (total £350)I was surprised and angry that the car has passed 3 MOTs and 3 Volvo services!!! This only proves that they and MOT stations are not thorough with their checks thus don't care about your safety! I'm really fed up and will not use dealer service for any future second hand cars without dealer warranty. They rip you off by not really looking into problems and deciding to replace good car parts at customer's expense. Not the best service in terms of quality. I paid nearly £800 at Murray Sighthill branch (before ownership change and branch move to Glasgow Road) for a detachable towbar and quite frankly would do it myself next time as they don't even follow Volvo guidelines. There was a step to make a cut in rear bumper which was done pretty badly and the electric socket's flap would not open all the way to connect plug. The cut was pretty rugged and a quick job than proper shown in volvo's guide on how to do it. I though they'd do a professional job for this amount of money paid i.e. double or tripple normal price in other garages who did a better job on my previous car. Also, went to buy a bulb replacement twice (at Glasgow Road) - same thing is most of the time - they call a guy from parts who doesn't appear for a long time to serve you i.e. was standing for over 20 minutes waiting. The above review is based on my experience with other Volvo services that have received. When it comes to servicing so far the best is TMS Hinckley although 300 miles away and I tend to wait for my next trip to England. There is no comparison to customer experience, professionalism and quality of work - these guys should learn from them. The car is always professionally cleaned, all minor problems fixed/adjusted within the service too. It's a shame because quite frankly there is not a good service around here that would be more convenient... I usually come out from TMS with confidence and a smile on my face, here in Edinburgh with a total uncertaininty and worried that something might not have been done properly. One more thing - once I asked to do a basic service that included brake pads and wipers replacement and when picked up my car found parts boxes inside (at old Murray Sighthill branch). I thought they're old parts to throw away but inside found brand new parts! I eneded up purchasing a jack and replacing all myself.
Arranged test drive with Andy Marchall. Got to say no hard sell no pressure just up front and honest information. To sum my experience up like talking to someone I had known for years but more than anything felt completely at ease felt like I got a really good deal for a really good car.
